Registered Nurse (OBGYN)

Location: Roxbury, MA

The Staff Nurse in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the Dimock Center is a key team member responsible for providing an environment in which a patient can receive competent, comprehensive, culturally sensitive and age appropriate care. In order to fulfill these responsibilities the nurse must bring to her/his role, sound clinical judgment along with communication, leadership and organizational skills. S/he will be responsible for the delegation to and supervision of other licensed and non-licensed support staff. S/he will collaborate in a confidential manner with the patent, the patient's family and other members of the care team in order to optimize patient outcomes. The RN is expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients care is provided to in his/her assigned area as per approved standards and criteria.

The employee is able to fulfill all of the requirements of the job assigned in a satisfactory manner as demonstrated by the responsibilities below. Nursing assignments are made weekly, based on staffing and provider schedules. All nurses are expected to be able to perform all the tasks listed. Tasks may include but are not confined to the following --

Floor:

  • CLIA waived labs: UA, pregnancy tests, blood glucose, rapid trich, more
  • Patient Triage-phone and in person
  • Medication administration, suture/staple removal, dressings and dressing changes
  • Immunizations/therapeutic injections
  • Patient Education and encouraging self-management
  • Clinical assessment in emergencies
  • Rooming patients as needed – height, weight, BP, BMI
  • EKG’s
  • Independent visits for early pregnancy education, diabetes counseling, depo provera and Lupron injections.
  • Completes pregnancy test visits and screens patient for sexual transmitted infections according to protocol according to family planning guidelines and clinic policy

Desk:

  • Phone call triage and advice
  • ER/Hospital phone follow up
  • Outreach to obstetrical patients with missed appointments.
  • Tracking appointments/referrals as clinically pertinent
  • Obtaining immunizations and medical records from other clinics/hospitals/ED
  • Prescription refills and responding to pharmacy phone calls
  • Postpartum check in calls
  • VNA referrals

Admin:

  • Ordering supplies, including medications and family planning supplies
  • Medication and family planning inventories
  • Checking code cart/bag
  • Upkeep of anal and cervical pap smear databases, obstetrical patient databases, tracking appointments, follow up and certified letters.
  • Quality Audits for Point of Care Testing (UA, Rapid trich, etc), procedure “time out” audits.
