JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective:

The Dimock Center provides emergency housing services for homeless families referred through the Department of Housing and Community Development. The position of Residential Support Staff works to support all families to achieve their goal of permanent housing. Provides on-site coverage to ensure smooth shelter operations and security of program participants, staff and facilities.

Essential Functions

1. ­­Performs duties that ensure the health, safety and well-being of residents such as light housekeeping including, but not limited to, sweeping, dusting, replenishing of supplies, cleaning of bathrooms, kitchen and common living areas.

2. Develops and maintains a warm, friendly, cooperative atmosphere in the residence.

3. Safeguards the privacy and confidentiality of residents and staff and treats individuals with dignity and respect at all times.

4. Maintains appropriate records and files as directed by the Site Manager.

5. Conducts daily room inspections, coordinating and following up on guest facility chores and schedules.

6. Ensures safety procedures are followed.

7. Communicates and works well with other staff and residents.

8. Assists residents in negotiating common space.

9. Ensures compliance with all shelter rules.

10. Attends all regularly scheduled staff meetings.

11. Covers the house when necessary on an emergency basis, including remaining on-site during emergencies such as snow storms until relieved by the incoming staff member.

Work Environment
This position mainly operates in an office/shelter environment.

Physical Demands

Assist in moving residents, lifting 10-20lbs, walking, sitting, and typing for long periods of time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This in a part time, overnight position 11pm – 7am. Friday and Saturday.

We are also hiring per diem relief staff

As a relief staff member, you must remain on shift until coverage arrives.

Compensation: $15 - $18.73

Required Education and Experience

1. High School Degree and/or equivalent required.

2. CPR and First Aid Certification required within 90 days of hire as well as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.

3. BA/BS in Human Services related field preferred.

4. Minimum of one year of experience working with families in a residential environment preferred.

5. Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Creole preferred.
