Medical Assistant

Our Health Center offers a range of primary and specialty health care for adults and children. We provide specialized clinics, Eye Care, Dental, Pediatrics, and OB/GYN.

Job Description

A clinical and administrative position as a Medical Assistant in Primary Care and Suboxone teams, Obstetrics and Gynecology team. Excellent opportunity to develop a strong foundation in primary outpatient care, working closely in a team of medical providers, nurses and front desk staff. Also, a unique opportunity to carry key administrative responsibilities on the Suboxone care team, a medication assisted substance abuse treatment program in the Primary Care setting. Weekend, Holiday and evening responsibilities in rotation.

Essential Functions

Primary care MA responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    1. Rooming Patients
    2. Recording Vital Signs (Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Oxygen)
    3. EKGs
    4. Point of Care Testing (Urine Dipstick, Urine Pregnancy, Rapid Strep, etc.)
    5. Stocking Rooms/Managing Inventory
    6. Faxing Paperwork
    7. Triaging incoming faxes
    8. Triaging phone calls to the MA care team extension
    9. Medication refills
    10. Immunization administration during provider appointments
    11. Triaging Telephone Encounters (TEs)
    12. Managing paperwork related to patient care, i.e. plan of care, death certificates, letters of clearance, Vaccination forms, consent forms, etc.
  1. Suboxone team responsibilities include:
    1. Phone outreach to clients
    2. Management of clinical database
    3. Administrative management of testing and of regulatory paperwork, i.e. checking PMP
    4. Maintain the strict confidentiality, treat patients with respect, courtesy and sense of urgency
    5. Anticipate, meet and/or exceed the patient’s needs
    6. Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested
    7. Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Care Manager

Competencies

  1. Familiarity with medical home model, chronic care management, outpatient substance abuse/mental health
  2. Bilingual Preferred – Spanish, Creole
  3. Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  4. Self-starter with ability to take initiative

Work Environment

This job operates in an office environment.

Physical Demands

Duties may require standing and walking, or sitting for long periods of time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full time Job Monday-Friday 9-5 pm, included one late day 11: am to 7: pm and rotating Saturday

Required Education and Experience

  1. Requires:
    1. High School diploma and/or equivalent
    2. Certificate of completion of Medical Assistant Program. CNA certification in lieu of MA certification accepted.
    3. Basic Life Support Certification within 90 days of hire
  2. Preferred: Minimum of one year of experience working as a Medical Assistant

Compensation:

$23-$25 per hour plus benefits.
