Part-Time / Per-Diem Addiction Medicine Provider - Weekends

Our Acute Treatment Services (ATS) site is a co-ed 32 bed drug detoxification unit specializing in up to date and cutting edge treatment models and protocols. Providers will work alongside med-surg and addiction trained nurses and non-clinical staff to deliver thorough and supportive care in a busy treatment setting. Our ATS is a licensed OTP which allows for new methadone initiation and dose titration during a patients stay. Our ATS is also linked with a Clinical Stabilization Services unit on the Dimock Campus and our Medication for Addiction Treatment outpatient clinic for linkage to further treatment and care.
Summary:
The Addiction Medicine Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will provide comprehensive, patient-centered, trauma-informed medical assessment and support to ATS patients with substance use disorders seeking acute withdrawal treatment and or connection to medication for addiction treatment. The provider will meet with patients at time of admission to assess severity of withdrawal, initiate appropriate treatment protocols (including but not limited to methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone, and benzodiazepines), review past medical history and home medications, and address any acute medical and psychiatric concerns. The individual in this position will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team at Acute Treatment Services including case managers, aftercare planners, and behavioral health specialists to ensure high quality wrap-around care is provided to each patient and a safe discharge plan arranged.
This position is for Friday-Saturday coverage primarily, though other days may become available as coverage needs arise.
Essential Functions:
Performs comprehensive medical assessments for Acute Treatment Services patients, including obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering appropriate diagnostics and therapeutics, interpreting patient data, triaging to higher level of care if appropriate
Monitors each patients response to medications and other therapeutics over their ATS stay and revises the care plan as appropriate
Provides respectful, patient-centered, trauma-informed medical care that is at the same time thorough and efficient
Documents patient encounters meticulously and efficiently
Collaborates and communicates effectively with other team members at ATS, including clinical leadership, other APPs, case managers, aftercare planners, behavioral health specialists, and admissions staff
Assists with the development and evaluation of practice guidelines and protocols
Participates in quality and process improvement activities to improve patient care and/or related systems
For Per-Diem Applicants: This position will require a minimum of 2 shifts per month and at least 1 holiday per calendar year.
Required Education and Experience
Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
>2 year of experience in Adult Internal Medicine
>1 year of experience working with vulnerable populations
Prior experience in addiction treatment preferred
Familiarity with the concepts and foundations of harm reduction
BLS Certification within 90 days of hire
Valid Prescriptive Authority from the MA DPH-DCP and Federal DEA
Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
