Behavioral Health Specialist – Acute Treatment Services (Full Time)

Our Behavioral Health Services provide residential and outpatient treatment for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders—programs that often save lives.
Acute Treatment Services (ATS)
ATS is a 32-bed medically monitored detox unit for alcohol and opioid use disorders. Serving the community for over 40 years, ATS helps men and women transition safely to recovery. The new Dr. Lucy Sewall Center will expand access to care, supporting 4,000 individuals annually.
Role Overview
Behavioral Health Specialists are essential members of the interdisciplinary team, supporting patients during detox and early recovery. You will work closely with nursing staff to provide evidence-based care, maintain a safe environment, and assist with admissions, daily clinical activities, and discharge. The schedule varies; days, evenings, and weekends are required.
Key Responsibilities
Engage with clients and colleagues professionally, compassionately, and respectfully.
Ensure safety and support for all clients in ATS.
Assess, communicate, and maintain therapeutic boundaries while enforcing program structure.
Support staff with safety checks, room searches, admissions, and discharges.
Facilitate a welcoming, supportive environment for new clients.
Recognize and respect individual and cultural differences in patient behavior.
Conduct client intake, complete documentation, and property searches.
Observe and report changes in client health or behavior.
Use de-escalation and negotiation skills to manage challenging situations.
Assist clients with personal needs, daily meals, and adherence to Dimock policies.
Facilitate recovery and addiction-focused group sessions.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program development.
Maintain professional boundaries and uphold a safe, therapeutic environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands / Salary
24-hour acute treatment setting.
Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
The approved range for this role is $21-$25/hr. Shift differentials may apply for evening or weekend hours.
Schedule
Shifts are generally from Tuesday to Saturday OR Sunday to Thursday at one of the below schedules. Please note preference is given to filling 3-11pm and overnight shifts. If part time roles are needed, they will cover every Saturday and Sunday and require a weekly commitment of at least those two days.
1st Shift - 7am to 3pm
2nd Shift - 3pm to 11pm
3rd Shift Overnight - 11pm to 7am
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred but not required
Significant experience supporting individuals with Substance Use Disorders or similar human services work is strongly preferred. Recovery experience is a plus.
